RANTOUL, IL-- A spokesperson for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has confirmed that the Vesper Choir has been involved in a bus accident.

It happened at 1:26 Saturday afternoon in Rantoul, Illinois.

Illinois State Police say the driver fell asleep at the time and drifted into the median. The bus was carrying 53 passengers.

Four people, including choir director Dr. Michael Bates, were transported to Carle and Provena Hospital, where they were treated and released.

The students are on a nine-day spring concert tour to Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit.

The choir is expected to perform Sunday as planned.

Police say the driver is identified as 74-year-old Bennie Askew of Grenada, Mississippi.

State troopers say the driver was charged with improper lane usage and driving while fatigued.

The vehicle is a white 2001 Motor Coach Bus of Starlight Tours from Lexington, Mississippi.

My Gmother still drives and she's 77. No sight problems and she can hear just fine,But I have to say.Her driving makes me really nervous. I agree with sjn12 on this.I would'nt want to take a long ride on a charter bus with an elderly person.I love them though:)

Gee I didn't know that sin12. My father and mother drove until they passed at 77 and 85 and They only had one accident apiece. Maybe the old people in your family have poor genetics. At 60 plus I still love to drive and haven't had a accident in years. I'll give up my driving when I get to old to chase the ladies though. There will not be a need to go anywhere then.

Who in there right mind hires a 70+ DRIVER TO begin with? What the only people responsible? Most all people by this age have hearing and sight problems nt to mention the need of extra rest- snap out of it!
