This year, all senior students in the nursing program at UAPB were not eligible to graduate because of a standardized test the school requires students to pass. Not all state schools require its nursing students pass the test.

The chair of the school’s nursing program has now resigned and after listening to students' complaints, the State Nursing Board has determined that UAPB’s program has inconsistencies in its grievance and grading process.

As a result of the board’s findings, UAPB will not be able to accept any new students for the next two years. School officials must also notify prospective students of the change and give them options of other programs. And, the school must hire a new nursing chair as well as an education consultant to review the program’s curriculum.

Current students in UAPB’s Nursing Program will be able to continue their courses until it’s time for them to graduate. But, the State Nursing Board says the school must have at least a 75 percent passing rate next year and the following year.

As it stands, the State Nursing Board is suspending the nursing program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and asking that strict requirements be implemented to help bring up student performance.

What is really sad!!!the same person talking out the rear and not with the brain, is also the same teacher that cant hold a job reguardless of the degree that she holds!!! that is why she is at U.A.P.B Very wierd how this college can keep getting by with what they are doing and nobody cares about the money are time these students have spent..anf freedom of speech yes i would like to point out mine as well. most teachers in this program are so church going and filled but at the same time lieing, stealing and covering up true grades that are earned!!! i would call this hippacrit college, and how the state of arkansas can stand back and be so proud of this branch at U.A.P.B is an insult to the state i live in. The natural state of lies and dishonesty should be on the tags of our cars/trucks.lets really represent our state this true american way by telling the truth.

UAPB should be ashame of the way they have treated the nursing students that were supposed to graduate in May. The faculty does not represent the students. They are only their to collect a check. The chancellor and the other people who represent the university should also be held accountable. These students have family that they need to care for. The chancellor and the nursing faculty haven't missed not one check since this whole ordeal began. I wonder what they would do if they were put in the students position and someone was trying to steal their degree. God does not like ugly and the UAPB nursing program represents nothing but ugly. The students should not only receive their degrees but should also receive compensation for time not being able to work. UAPB will answer for their problems and God will be the judge.

To tlmarshall9, how dare you comment on the UAPB DON students who passed this semester. I am a witness to the vigerous late night study sessions these 7 students endured in order to pass their classes and the HESI exam. These students were able to pass the class and the HESI considering the lack of guidance, uneducated/inexperienced instructors as well as the unprofessionalism of the department as a whole. How do you expect a student to pass without being properly taught. Reread your own comments, the mispelled words gives example to the kind of instruction given to these as well as numerous other students. Also, aren't you the same instructor who physically assaulted a student by pushing her in clinical over a dispute regarding a man? WOW! I commend these students who have been degraded and humiliated by UAPB staff. Their hard work and tenacity should earn them the right to their degree and the right to take state boards. I can assure these 7 students know more about nursing than any instructor in the UAPB DON Program due to SELF TEACHING and the help of outside Nursing Instructors! Please get it together UAPB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

same problem over 20 years ago. The instructors were abusive and ill-prepared. The program closed down for 2 years. alumni came from as long as 10-15years before with tears in their eyes expressing the academic and moral abuse. I left that town as soon as I got my degree and NEVER want to see UAPB again based on my horrible experience

It is not surprising that the nursing program is on suspension. I am a 1989 alumni of the nursing program and I can honestly say it was the worse time of my life. I remember seeing students literally throw up before a class. In addition is was almost impossible to pass their test. The instructors were ill prepared and darn right hateful. Thank God the following year shed some light and alumni were summonded as far back as 15years. There was not a dry eye in the room. UAPB's nursing program is like being in the twighlight zone. It no short of psycological cruelty because they know Little Rock is a distance. I left Pine Bluff years ago based on the behavior of these so-called educators. Stay prayerful students, stay hopeful God will move them out like they moved that crew out in 1990

In this overall situation, I believe that all the students who are currently attending UAPB DON and those who have graduated needs to be addressed as well. There are some students who were successful with the theory, clinical, and HESI component of different nursing courses. Yes, nursing school is very demanding and only a few are able to finish the process. Out of my nursing of 40 students, only 9 graduated. At the beginning of nursing, several students are lost. That's just the way it is. Nursing school has change tremendously, from 10 years ago. The materials are more complex and higher standards are being set for nursing students. It's not a personal attack, but there is no room for errors, when you are completed and caring for patients. Most times, we don't listen to the positive feedback from other students who are proud of their educational journey at UAPB. Please don't allow a few to tarnish, all those highly respected nurses in the community who have attended UAPB DON and have went on to accomplish great things. I just believe in hearing all the voices, whether negative or positive and the positive voices needs to be heard. Thanks for allowing me to share my freedom of speech.

And one of the facts include closing the loop holes for those nursing students who believe that they will be permitted to sit for licensure by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing without successfully passing the comprehensive HESI examination as required by the Department of Nursing. It is the student’s sole responsible, in collaboration with their instructor, to acquire the needed knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be successful in each nursing course. Students enrolled in the UAPB Nursing Program are informed on several occasions that special considerations, on the basis of a plea of ignorance of scholastic status or academic policy will not be enforced. The students are made aware that he or she must successfully pass the theory, clinical, and HESI standardized exam to successfully pass clinical nursing courses. This is the UAPB Department of Nursing Policy. It will be enforced. Yes, the pass rate has been extremely low in the past, but the mandated “HESI Pass Rate” is in place to assisting toward increasing those pass rates.

I think that if ITT was investigated they would find the same thing happening to students here. Most people have quit because they could not lie to students anymore, or they would not just pass a student because they where told to. Many of us are trying to get together to file a Class Action lawsuit against them

I attended ITT-tech, and we to had the same problem of not being properly prepared. There was three quarters that we did not even have instructors. The rest of the time we were there we were being taught material that was out of date, and the books and equipment where not even close to industry standards. Now I am holding two degrees from there that are worth as much as wallpaper.
