CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - The University of Central Arkansas says longtime trustee Dr. Harold Chakales has died.

The school said Tuesday that Chakales served on the board for 17 years over the course of three terms, starting in 1985. Chakales was board chairman in 1989, 1997, and 2010.

Chakales was an orthopedic surgeon in Little Rock and had a practice near St. Vincent Infirmary.

UCA Interim President Tom Courtway says Chakales loved the university and supported its academic programs and its fine arts.

Chakales earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from Wake Forest University.

Funeral services are pending.
