educate your child about guns - what they really do, yes that may indlude YOU learning. guns are not going away. my sons (now 21-30) have been around guns all thier lives, and learned before grade school what guns do. my guns are locked in a safe to pevent theft not to preven family access. need to learn? contact the nra for eddie eagle training material. was proud of my 5 year old teaching others gun safty - still proud of same boy safely home from afganistan. lib gun haters are fools - the police can't / won't / don't have to come to your aid - at all. look up morgan vrs us marshal service.

Butch54 I guess that I am one of those Punks that have to have a gun. You obviously have not heard the news story of the man that went into a store bouht a knife (yes he payed for it) and then started stabbing people just outside the store. That was until a man with a gun stopped him. The gun safe did not work and yes they should have had a trigger lock. DO NOT CONDEM US ALL FOR THE IDIOT THAT CAN'T WORK A GUN SAFE.

Fine them - take their gun for a certain amount of time- gun safety classes- and proof of a safe that actually works- dhs is not good for kids- but of course in this state some low life will make money off it and be paid to watch him- not to mention all the terrible things that can happen in dhs- hope this is not another cheap parent setting up another parent----- because in AR as you just read its always witch hunt season- we should all be thankful it ended as well as it could- but seriously charges that hurt but not destroy would be a deterrent.

Thats right people we need to start killing bugs with sledgehammers and moving the livingroom furniture around with bulldozers. Felony ....REALY???? Come ooonn people. This has gotten too crazy.... Eather we do'nt do any punnishment or els we want to put someone in prison for life..... Is there no in between. There is a littlebit of correction that needs to be done but not trying to ruen someones life. This is a child that needs a good slow hide tanning and safty talk to explain why he got his hide tanned. As far as the parents.... They can't watch every move every minute of the day. I am a parent also and i havent seen any instructions on ether one of my kids butts and i'm not perfect. All one can do is the best that they can do.

To all with a brain the size of a BB. If you own a gun you should be responsible for it. If your 7 year old shows up with it at school with it you didn't do you job. To smoke a joint in public is a felony. There is a lot less danger in that than your unprotected gun in a public school. If your a punk that thinks you have to have one fine. Make sure it is handled with the respect it needs. Felony for sure.

kissle25.. that's a little harsh... do u realize what the child would go through being placed with DHS?! I realize a gun at school is seriuos but it doesn't mean the child should be taken away from his parents. This doesn't sound like child abuse but the parents do need discipline for this and maybe forced to take some gun safety courses paid for out of thier own pockets. Your statement makes you seem like a small minded over reactive person...kind of like the ones in history who burned the "witches" at the stake.

well I'd be getting my money back on that gun safe...It's apparently not that secure if a 7 yr old get manage to get a pistol out of it.

I understand this is a serious situation but I think the idea of charging the parents with a felony and placing the child with dhs is going a little far, especially if no one got hurt. After this is Arkansas and the little boy was probably excited about going hunting or something and wanted to show the friend his gun. However, I agree the parents show a lack of reponsiblity in overlooking the fact their child got ahold of a gun obviously without adult supervision.

I agree. Felony charges for parents.
