LITTLE ROCK, AR – Interstate 40 was reopened in both directions at 4pm Thursday, after being shut down for most of the day.
The interstate was shut down around 6am due to an accident involving a semi-truck at mile marker 201, near the White River Bridge. At least one car caught fire in the accident.
Even after the wreckage was cleared, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department spent hours inspecting the bridge, making sure it was safe for the public.
The traffic jam spread out for miles. Drivers, tired of waiting, spent part of the day standing out side their cars, looking and waiting for traffic to get moving again.
