OLA, AR – A fire in Yell County near Ola that burned an estimated 1400 acres is 100% contained, and officials say that Hwy 7 from Ola to the intersection of Hwy 7 and Hwy 60 are set to reopen Thursday morning.
The Yell County Sheriff’s Department says all residents have been allowed to return home but firefighters expect to be working hot spots throughout the day.
The fire destroyed an empty mobile home and an empty shed/barn. No injuries have been reported.
The sheriff’s department says the fire was caused by a road crew working on Highway 7 for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.
"The wind has not been or friend today," said Yell County Sheriff Bill Gilkey.In just minutes Wednesday, the fire went front 50% contained burning 110 acres to zero containment burning 300 acres. Crews got it back to 50% contained late Wednesday night and fully contained by early Thursday morning.
Fire crews from volunteer departments, Arkansas Forestry, the US Forest Service, and Deltic Timber will continue fighting the fire.
