LITTLE ROCK, AR – Authorities are searching the woods for a teenager who escaped from a squad car and handcuffs and ran into the woods Monday afternoon.

An investigator with the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department tells Fox 16 that deputies responded to a home near Possum Trot and Brown Trail and arrested a 17-year-old for hitting his brother with a tire iron and pointing a gun at him. The incident happened around 2:15pm.

The boy was handcuffed and put in the back of a squad car. While the deputy was inside talking to the family, the teen escaped. The investigator says the arresting deputy had wrecked his car several weeks ago and his new one does not have a cage installed. The teen, in cuffs, hopped over the front seat and let himself out of the car.

The family tells deputies that the boy had been practicing escaping handcuffs. After the teen got out of the car he was able to get out of the handcuffs and ran into the woods.

Hot Spring County deputies, State Police, and Arkansas Game and Fish are all searching for him. He was last seen in the Social Hill area. He was last seen wearing a blue polo shirt, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.

If you see him, deputies say don’t try to apprehend him, call 911 instead.

WHY DONT EVERYONE JUST QUIT WITH THE BASHING OF THE HOT SPRING COUNTY DEPUTIES??? MOST ALL OF THEY DO A EXCELLENT JOB BASED OFF OF WHAT THEY HAVE TO WORK WITH AND THEY PAY THEY RECEIVE... HSC IS ONE OF THE LOWEST PAYED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS. THEY CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH WITH THE UNDERSTAFFING THEY EXPERIANCE. YEA I WILL AGREE HE NEEDS TO GET RID OF THAT CHIEF DEPUTY BUT THE REST OF HIS DEPARTMENT IF VERY PROFESSIONAL AND THEY ARE FINE OFFICERS. MOST ANYONE OF THEM BEND OVER BACKWARDS TO HELP OUT THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTY. WHEN SOMETHING POSITIVE HAPPENS . U HEAR NOTHING ABOUT IT ...BUT LET SOMETHING BAD HAPPEN AND IT IS FRONT PAGE NEWS FOR WEEKS AND EVERYONE HAS TO START REPEATING IT AND THERE GOES THE RUMOR MILL... WHY DON"T EVERYONE START INSTILLING THEIR SUPPORT IN THEIR SHERIFF DEPARTMENT AND IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED ADDRESS IT WITH THE ELECTED OFFICIAL. RATHER THAN CALLING IN A COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF SOMETHING PITTY WHY DON'T PEOPLE CALL AND MAKE POSITIVE STATEMENTS TO ADMINISTRATION ABOUT HOW PROFESSIONAL AND HOW MUCH THE OFFICER HELPED THEM. THAT GOES FOR ALL LEVELS OF SHERIFF OFFICE

Hopefully the kid wasn't a mass murderer, serial rapist or perv that got away from him. There are some out there that become police so they can ger away with it. Just like everyone else though I would like to see more of these dirty cops exposed. Some in this state have gotten away with murder.

I wish some people would not vote. Most people just vote for the name they recognize the most. That is why the same sheriff is still in office. If you don't know anything about the candidates, please refrain from voting. That is how all this corruption persists. Let the people who poke their heads out of the sand every once in a while decide. These out of control sheriffs are all over the place, they make me sick. We surely need to be rid of constables too.

I have a couple friends who work for LRPD. They make in the 50's. I see Ashley Downs full of squad cars. I want to be rid of the local PD's. Send my taxes to the pros at the state police. This guy had adequate equipment until he wrecked it.

How come when there is positive news to report you don't see all these comments. Things happen no matter who's in charge. I bet things happen to you at work all the time, it just isn't news worthy and you don't have people criticizing you for what you did! Why don't you quit your gripping and get behind your local law enforcement who are out there every day putting their lives on the line to protect your butt for less than $25,000 a year! Why don't you complain to your quorum court members to get these guys the equipment and manpower needed to do their job correctly! Quit moaning and groaning. If you can do it better then why aren't you out there wearing the badge and doing it then. I have friends in law enforcement and until you get out there and do what they do, then quit gripping about the way they do it!
