This reminds me of the story from pope county this past week-end.A 70 something year old man on his own property minding his own business was attacked by 5 officers. he was accused of being drunk when he wasn't and was denied a breath test and phone call.Held over night in the drunk tank overnight. He told them he was a diabetic and his legs were in bad shape they beat him up and he is in the hospital now. This story can be read in the Russellville paper The Courier. It made the headlines today.

Really people....some of you have nothing better to do than "bash" people on here. This officer puts his life in jeopardy everytime he puts that uniform and badge on to "protect" the citizens. If he would not have protected himself, as he is professionally trained to do, and let the other person run off and possibley injured or killed someone else. Then you people would have been "bashing" him for NOT doing his job. If you werent there and dont know the details....the SHUT UP!!!!!

A street cop can only shoot to end a threat to human life. At that moment, there is no such thing as shoot to kill. It does not exist. There is no such thing as shoot to injure. That does not exist either. The only way a street cop can shoot is to aim center mass and to keep shooting at center mass until the threat is over. As to a taser or some other less lethal response, no way. Pepper spray, taser, baton, etc, is only for unarmed offenders. An offender with a weapon, any kind of weapon, gets a pistol. This is the way all cops in America are trained. This is the only way it is. So the question is this: was human life in danger? If the answer is yes, then there is no problem. If the answer is no, then this deputy has a serious problem.

I saw Dustin on the side of the road yesterday on my way to work at 9 am. He did kick one vehicle and struck another with an object. I was headed in the opposite direction. I could tell he was obviously having some sort of episode that would need intervention. Wish he could've gotten that.

To those of you judging this officer before knowing details, you should be ashamed. I happen to know this man personally and he has been an officer for many years, and has always taken his job very seriously. He is the last person to shoot unless he had no choice, he is in great shape and is the most responsible person I know when it comes to guns, training and clear thinking under pressure. Unless you were there and know the details as to why, you have no place to judge. This was a tragic situation in which a great man was put in an extremely difficult situation and was forced to act according to his training. My prayers go out to both families.

ever heard of reverse...another self important thug tax collector...that couldn't behave in a proffesional manner...i find their training to be at the very least misdirected...and horrificly inadequate...violence is the last resort...this guys initial response was straight to lethal

My only problem with this situation is, the officer shot the man from inside of his car. He could had backed up or retreated a short distance while maintaining eye contact on the guy until back-up showed up. I send my condolences to his family. I'm not going to 2nd guess the officer either but I just think there were other options.
