My heart goes out to the family of this child and to the bus driver as well. I have driven school bus for a number of years and the one constant worry is that you will somehow hurt a child. There are so many things that are constantly happening at the same time, as well as blind spots on the bus, that can cause you to miss seeing a small running child... they all need our prayers.

i ment no disrespect towards the family but the jackman st in benton ar is a city st one block from ringold elemerty speed limit 30 the speeds ther going there they could not stop if a child stepped out in front of them i almost seen it happen in front of my house an if a bus goes into the water or gets hit by a train theres not much a driver is going to be able to do but there more likely to get hurt in a wreck say hitting seat in front of them than the weaks you state but as far as what happened at hot spring i make no judgment as i was not there

ladyofthehill Hannah was not alone~her mother was in the drive way and witnessed it all....PLEASE DON'T POINT FINGERS duke5555 the speed limit that a bus driver should follow unless posted differently is 45 m.p.h. on rural roads. The reason school buses does not have seat belts is in case of an emergency the driver has limited time to get 50-75 students off of the bus before the bus is hit by a train or sinks into the lake or bursted into flames. This precious Angel was the closet thing I've ever had to a granddaughter and she was smart and funny and such a joy to be around. She was a blessing to everyone that came into contact with her. If you want to leave a comment on here.....please let it be condolences for the family or special memories of Hannah but not a gripe session about bus drivers, her life was more important than that.

It's not too had to do research and get facts - from the Arkansas State CDL study manual, section 10: School bus drivers must have a commercial driver’s license if they drive a vehicle designed to transport (seat) 16 or more persons, including the driver. School bus drivers must have a school bus endorsement in addition to a passenger endorsement on their commercial driver’s license (CDL). To get the school bus endorsement, you must pass a knowledge test on sections 2, 4 and 10 of this manual. (If your school bus has air brakes, you must also pass a knowledge test on Section 5.) You must also pass the skills test required for the class of school bus you drive or intend to drive. This section does NOT provide information on all the federal and state requirements needed before you drive a school bus. You should be thoroughly familiar with all specific school bus procedures, laws and regulations in your state and local school district.

ArkansasYankee, bus drivers are required to have CDL or some source of special license to haul passengers (I forget what its call) they don't just have regular drivers license.

Prayers to the family and bus driver. I've seen them speeding also; but my biggest problem with them is they don't seem to be able to stay in their lane; always on or over the center line. They should have CDL's. Large vehicles like buses are much different than cars and pick up trucks!
