BRYANT, AR – Bryant police say a domestic dispute turned deadly Monday morning when a man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend before likely turning the gun on himself.
Witnesses told police Jenny Marie Cavender, 39, of Bryant, who worked as a nurse at Saline Memorial Hospice, was leaving work when a man approached her vehicle and fired shots at her car.
Witnesses say the man emptied his clip, reloaded and fired more shots.
Police found the woman dead in the car and the man, later identified as 38-year old Ronnie Odell Stewart Jr. of Maumelle, believed to be the victim’s ex-boyfriend outside of the car, though it is unknown at this time if he committed suicide.
Police say Cavender had recently moved to Bryant from Conway and had an order of protection against Stewart Jr. on December 13, 2011 out of the city of Austin in Lonoke County.
Matt Brumley, foundation director at Saline Memorial Hospital, says some employees witnessed the shooting.
"This is a tragic time for the Saline Memorial family," Brumley says. "We're a tight knit family here and we're in a grieving process mourning the loss of our coworker."
