PINE BLUFF, AR - Pine Bluff police say a 14-year old turned himself in to detectives after shooting and killing a 12-year old.
Investigators say they are still working to find out more about what was happening moments before the shooting. How did the 14-year-old get a hold of the gun and what was happening inside the house? According to the neighbors - the answers may not make it any easier to understand.
From the outside, the house at Harding and Pennsylvania in Pine Bluff doesn't stand out.
A basketball hoop is perhaps the only sign that kids may live inside.
Pine Bluff police say it’s where a 14-year-old shot and killed a 12-year-old this weekend.
"It's devastating. You really don't know what to do or to think about the situation," Kristen Hicks says.
Kristen Hicks lives just a block away from where 12-year-old Quinshon Parks was shot.
"That's young. It's real bad," Hicks says. "But, it happens a lot around here, shootings and stuff. But you'd never think it would come so close, from behind our house like that."
FOX16 news spoke with someone at the house this afternoon who was there at the time of the shooting. They didn't want to go on camera, but said it was definitely an accident.
"It's the parents fault too," Tarrence Rochelle says. "Because they shouldn't have that gun around no kids."
That's a part of the investigation that police continue to work.
Right now, the 14-year-old is charged with 1st degree battery and a juvenile in possession of a firearm.
But detectives say, since the incident resulted in the death of Quinshon Parks, those charges could be enhanced.
12-year old Quinshon Parks died at a Pine Bluff hospital at 4am Sunday morning.
The Jefferson County prosecutor's office will review the case and decide what charges to file.
Parks shooting was the second in Pine Bluff in as many days.
