VAN BUREN, Ark. (AP) - Authorities in western Arkansas say they've found human remains while searching for a missing 16-year-old girl.
Sheriff Bill Hollenbech says deputies found the remains inside a barrel on Lavaca property that belongs to a man who was arrested in the case. Hollenbeck says authorities not yet determined if they are Angela Allen's remains but the clothing on the body is consistent with what the girl was wearing when she disappeared.
The Van Buren girl was reported missing Saturday. Hollenbeck says the remains will go to the state crime lab for identification. Preliminary autopsy results are expected early next week.
Authorities have arrested a 36-year-old man with whom police believe she had a relationship. Authorities have said they believe the man was the last person to see the girl.
He's being held on an aggravated assault charge.
Police said the relationship between the two began on a social-media site and further developed via text messaging.
