JACKSONVILLE, AR - A man has been arrested for murder after authorities say he ran over two firefighters and a police officer who were responding to a wreck.

Police and firefighters responded to a single vehicle accident around 11:30pm Monday in the 8400 Block of Hwy 161. Police say the vehicle left the road and hit a gas main.

According to investigators, 47-year-old Bryce Allen, drove around emergency vehicles and accelerated towards emergency responders, hitting three of them.

Jacksonville Mayor Gary Fletcher lost more than a city employee. He also lost his classmate and friend since eighth grade.

"Never heard him say anything negative about anybody. He was just an exceptional person. I was at the Central Fire Station last night when they brought his equipment and it hit home," Fletcher said.

Tuesday morning, Centerpoint crews fixed the gas main that started the chain-reaction leading to Jones' death on Highway 161.

Police say Thelma Allen hit the main with her car.  Then Jones, firefighter Jason Bowmaster and police officer Daniel Dimatteo responded.

While helping her, they say Bryce Allen -- the crash victim's son -- sped right into the first responders, killing Jones and injuring the other two men.

"Was it intentional?" I asked.

"It does appear to be intentional. Yes. There were witnesses who say he accelerated toward the officer and the firefighters," said April Kiser, spokeswoman for the Jacksonville Police Department.

Kiser says Allen's criminal history dates back to 2009.  Court records show allen had a May hearing for felony terroristic threatening charges.

Mayor Fletcher says Jacksonville firefighters get top-notch training, but it doesn't prepare for these types of scenarios.

"How do you train anybody from getting hit in a car and they're off the road where they should be and did everything right?"

I've heard that the police officer who was injured had answered a domestic dispute call Saturday involving this guy and ended up arresting him. If true, then there's no doubt this was intentional and he should be charged with murder

There was a report in the Leader newspaper that said this guy was acquitted in the recent past for assault on a police officer due to mental defect. He claims that the KKK has caused him to be paranoid and that he is nuts. If he is this crazy, we dont need him running loose on the streets, but I dont want to spend the money keeping his sorry ass alive in prison either. Treat these people like dogs, if they are a danger, euthanize them. They are no better than a rabid or vicious dog in my book.

or maybe - just maybe - he caused his father's accidnet and was trying to keep the rescue from happening. Seems calculated to me. Of course, his plea will be "I was distraught -I'm innocent..."

They should have shot his sorry ass and tossed his body in the creek. Sorry piece of human trash. Sad part is, Arkansas will not deliver proper justice, they dont have the balls to do so.

Arkansas does have a "Move Over/Give a Lane" Law: Arkansas State law requires drivers approaching stationary emergency response vehicles that are displaying flashing lights, including wreckers or tow vehicles, traveling in the same direction, to move to the farthest lane from the vehicle if safe and possible to do so, or to slow to a speed appropriate for road and weather conditions. I know that his family was involved in initial accident and that emotions were high. I heard that "his accelerator got stuck"..but does that also mean that his steering wheel was inoperational and pointed directly towards personal? Yes, it seems severe to some that he is getting charged with murder; but seriously!! I have driven in Arkansas many times; seems everyone in too much of a hurry. Why? The Autobaun is in Germany (and yet it does have some speed limits). The Emergency Services (Fire Dept, Police, and Ambulance Services) are here to help us and our families when needed. Who watches their back? Move OVER and let them save lives, PLEASE.

I understand that during these type of circumstances that ones thought process tends to get bent out of whack, but to drive pass emergency vehicles that have lights flashing is unexcusable. 31 years shot to hell because this person thought it'd be ok to drive past the emergency vehicles rather than walking to the scene. Obviously they were driving pretty fast to do this type of carnage. Just senseless, plain and simple.

the entire situation itself is sad, i pray his family find comfort and peace in this tough time, its not easy coping with a death of a loved one when it all boils down to it
