PINE BLUFF, AR - The boy who drowned in a pond near UAPB was 12-years-old, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office tells Fox 16 that the boy, along with his brother and cousin, were playing on a dock on private property. The victim got in the water, apparently unable to swim and unaware how cold it would be. The other two realized the victim was in trouble and tried to rescue him, even though they were unable to swim as well.

Deputies responded to the call at 11:14am and recovered the body at 12:03pm.

The name of the victim has not been released.
