SHERWOOD, AR – The victim has been identified in a fatal Thursday evening car accident on JFK in Sherwood.

Police say the accident happened at about 4:42pm near the intersection of Johnson Avenue. Investigators believe that the southbound vehicle crossed into incoming traffic and struck another vehicle.

Kyle Charles Truitt, 23, who was reportedly on his way home from work at the Little Rock Air Force Base, was taken to the hospital from the accident and pronounced dead. Police say there were no other injuries reported in the accident.

The incident was still under investigation.

Statements from the Little Rock Air Force Base

"The Airmen and families of Little Rock Air Force Base send their thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Kyle Truitt during this difficult time," Col. Mike Minihan, the 19th Airlift Wing commander said in a release.

"The squadron mourns the tragic loss of a highly professional Airman. His constant smile and caring personality were a daily inspiration to his friends and co-workers," Lt. Col. George Johnson, the 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron commander said.
"Kyle's wingmen will miss him dearly. The unit will strive to honor his service and will be vigilant in taking care of his family. Kyle earned and deserves our very best."

"Truitt was an outstanding young Airman; the unit grieves the loss of a respected teammate and friend. He was always full of life and brought that energy to the workplace," Chief Walter Deason, the 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron First Sergeant said. "He was an excellent crew chief with vast system knowledge and always a go-to-guy. He will be greatly missed."

Thank you everyone for all your kind words, but for those of you who claim that you have met me, I'm sorry to say you met my sister Lois Laza and she was not his mother. If you attended Kyle's funeral you then you finally met me. To correct everyone else beliefs Kyle only lived in Brentwood, CA with his Aunt from 2009 until his passing. For those parents who son's my son touched I am grateful for all your kind words.

My condolences to this young man's family and friends. I apologize for the ignorant and presumptuous comments made by anyone on here. Why it is people can't seem to wait to make such remarks is beyond me. They should be careful as words have power and they don't come back void. Again my prayers and sympathy for your loss.

To the Mother of Kyle and his family. I am so deeply broken because of your loss. I feel this pain you carry because Kyle was my twin son's half brother. Kyle was an exceptional young man! May God comfort you in this time and you will be in my prayers and thoughts always.

To the Parents & family of Airman Kyle Truitt; I am deeply saddened for your loss and our family is appalled by the comments of people who jump to conclusions when we lose a young person. I did not have the pleasure to meet him, although my son, a fellow Airman, who served with him overseas on their last tour of duty became a close friend to him and always spoke highly of him and proclaimed he was "like a brother". Kyle was an amazing young man and your loss is our loss. Know that you and the family are in our hearts and prayers, and all your military family is beside and behind you through this and you can always count on us. May our Lord and Saviour touch and heal each and everyone of your hearts through this tragedy. Another proud Airforce Mother.

To Kyle's mother: I cannot begin to imagine how you feel right now. You son was truly an inspiration to those around him. I never had the pleasure of meeting him personally, but he was my son's best friend at LRAFB. I know my son loved Kyle like a brother and he was a mentor to my son. My heart goes out to you for your loss. God be with you during this time. I know the other Airmen will honor Kyle in whatever they do. You truly raised an amazing young man.

@Mad Mother: Ma'am, my heart goes out to you and your family. Kyle was my brother, we both went through the same basic training flight and I got to know him very well. He was always helping everyone around him, you raised an awesome son and I'm very grateful to be called one of his friends. You don't know me because I was in the hospital at graduation day, but he actually helped save my life. He tipped off the senior leadership when he knew I was deathly sick (had double pneumonia; 100% filled on one side, 89% on the other). I had no intention of seeking help, and without him and the others, I wouldn't be here writing to you right now. I want you to know your son is a hero and that he enjoyed putting his life on the line for our nation. He loved you and your family very very much. It was an honor to have served with him. He will be greatly missed.

My heart and prayers goes out to the family. I could see this wreck from my bedroom window, really horrible. :( On an unrelated note- that part of the road is 107, not JFK, JFK does not start till somewhere past Lee and before North Hills. That road changes names 3 times.

Kyle your in my heart and always will be. I'll never forgot you coming across the street from your work (panama bay coffee) to my work bringing me those left over goodies at the end of the day, just to ask get a date out of me. Took me to sushi for my first time n I wasn't a fan, now its all I eat. You are the brightest, strongest, friendliest gentleman I have ever met. Memories with you will never be lost and some day I hope to be reunited. I miss you Kyle

Kyle we all love you brother. Words can't express what you meant to us here. You brought a whole base together and there was not one person who's mind you did not cross. Matt Damon as most of us called you, I know we weren't as close as we were when you were under my wing, but you were always and will always be my brother. Skinny jeans and a pea coat with a smile. I miss you man.
