LITTLE ROCK, AR -- A straight party line vote pushed a bill requiring photo identification when you go to the polls through the Arkansas House on Wednesday.

Questions originally surrounded just how many votes at the capitol a voter ID bill needed, as questions about whether or not it changed the Arkansas constitution arose.

The bill would need more votes if it was determined that it changed the state constitution than it would if they determined it did not.

Even the controversial abortion bills picked up Democratic votes, but the voter ID bill did not, as it passed 51-44.

The voter ID bill will now go back to the Senate before possibly making its way to Governor Beebe's desk for signature or veto.

I didn't know we had a voter fraud problem in Arkansas. In fact I can't find any credible evidence of widepsread voter fraud anywhere in the US. Republicans always focus on foolishness when they get too much power. We are quickly becoming another missippi. Well in all honesty we were never too far above missippi. I also didn't know we had an urgent need for a lot of new gun legislation in the state or abortion legislation. Republicans will never win another national election if this is where their priorities lie.

itsjustme - I was trying to be kind with my answer - but DD's post makes no sense. IF he was a Marine, he'd support defending his vote and combating possible identity theft at the polls. I know for a fact every government office requires a picture ID before you get service - state and/or fed, and to sign a lease or rental agreement, most people require a picture ID. The only way to be completely needless of an ID is if you are a homeless vagrant. (In which case you have no address, so it's nearly impossible to register to vote...) But he's posting here, so he has access to the internet and an email address. Even if he's going to the library for access, he'd need a library card - and a picture ID to get it.

How can a person have a zero need for ID? How do you cash a check? How do you get a hotel room? How do you prove who you are to anyone? Thats right, as a Democrat, your checks are cashable without ID, same as welfare benefits.
