LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A West Memphis police officer has been convicted on a federal misdemeanor charge of violating the civil rights of a man who was under arrest.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced Friday the conviction of 39-year-old Scott McCall of West Memphis on one count of deprivation of rights under color of law.
McCall was accused of choking a man who was under arrest and had his hands handcuffed behind his back. The incident occurred June 14, 2010.
McCall faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine when sentenced.
