BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says Sam's Club President and CEO Brian Cornell is leaving the company so he can return to the Northeast for family reasons.

The 52-year-old Cornell will be succeeded by 49-year-old Rosalind Brewer, who was serving as president of the retailer's eastern U.S. division. Brewer will report to CEO Mike Duke. The moves are effective Feb. 1.

Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer, also said Friday that it is promoting Gisel Ruiz to executive vice president and chief operating officer for its U.S. operations. The 41-year-old Ruiz has been an executive vice president working in human relations and store innovation.

Wal-Mart is also promoting Rollin Ford to chief administrative officer. The 49-year-old Ford was chief information officer. He will be replaced as C-I-O by 50-year-old Karenann Terrell.

Wal-Mart shares rose 17 cents to $60.78 in morning trading.
