LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a weak tornado or a landspout may have occurred when severe thunderstorms moved through Arkansas.
According to warning coordinator John Robinson, the weather service was alerted to some photos taken on Monday that appeared to show at least a funnel cloud forming between Humnoke and Carlisle in Lonoke County. He says landspouts occur in Arkansas on warm, very humid days in June, July and August.
Also on Monday, teams surveying damage from Sunday's storms believe strong, straight-line winds knocked down trees and caused other damage. Robinson says teams estimate wind gusts reached 75 mph in Shirley and around 60 mph in Batesville.
Trees fell onto homes and roofs and outbuildings were damaged in Van Buren County.
No injuries were immediately reported.
