Woman arrested for threatening son with knife

HOT SPRINGS, AR - A Garland County woman arrested a after authorities say she threatened her 14-year-old son with a knife for hiding her pills.

Tamra Thacker, 35, was arrested shortly before 5:30 p.m. at Lake Hamilton Junior High and charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison.

According to reports, Garland County deputies ware called to the school in reference to suspected child abuse and spoke with a Community Counseling therapist who said he had been talking to a student about “problems at home.”

The therapist said the teen told him about an incident before school that day and said his mother got mad at him because he had hidden her pills from her. The boy told the therapist that his mother had overdosed on pills in March and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The boy said his mother “got upset,” so she pulled a knife and threatened to kill him, according to reports.

The teen has been placed with a family member by DHS.

Thacker has been released on a $2,500 bond.
