Woman enters guilty plea in baby's death

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A Benton County circuit court judge has sentenced a Rogers woman to 18 years in prison for the death of her 3-week-old son.

Rebecca Drake pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Monday as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Authorities arrested Drake Aug. 31, 2010, in the death of Lane Drake. Court documents show she told police she found Lane stiff and cold to the touch.

According to the Benton County Daily Record, chief deputy prosecutor Stuart Cearley said Drake told police she had been drinking the night before.

He says when the baby woke her up, she fed him but he wouldn't stop crying. She then covered her baby's mouth and squeezed in an attempt to stop him from crying.

Drake's attorney, Shane Wilkinson, said his client is remorseful.

If you know new mothers/fathers/stepfathers TELL THEM it IS OKAY to leave a baby crying for short periods of time to regain sanity. Put the pillow over YOUR head so that you can't hear the crying. The baby will NOT DIE from being left alone for short periods of time while you talk yourself out of murder. As children grow there are MANY times when you have to ignore bouts of crying. It is NORMAL.

That is so sad I had 5 miscarriages trying to get pregnant. Finally I have 2 beautiful amazing little girls. I know sometimes it is hard being a parent and sometimes you feel like going outside and screaming which you should do that before you lay your hands on a 3 week old baby. That precious angel was helpless. What a piece of crap. Wonder if she has any other children? She should get the death penalty for sure!!! RIP you precious angel!

SO SO SAD.. THE WORST PART IS WE WILL PROBABLY NEVER KNOW WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO THE BABY.. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN ANYTHING TO HAVE HAD A BABY CRYING NEXT TO ME " IN NEED OF MOMMY"..WELL AT LEAST THE BABY IS IN HEAVEN AND BEING A "LITTLE ANGEL" RIP LITTLE ONE

3 weeks old please; that baby is if it’s that picture is way older, this is heartbreaking all the way around too young to cope- but I'd ask for an autopsy because it takes more than a squeeze to kill a baby- infant death syndrome may have been a factor- drinking sounds bad but drinking or drunk-or tired and guilty by association ? If the baby was crying something was wrong- sick- previous hurt- check it out previously in someone else’s care? Got to be certain because while that didn't sound good doesn't necessarily make her guilty- that’s the tough part about babies- they can't tell you-

That baby looks like a angel, I believe when you take a life you should give yours up ! My heart breaks for that baby, who did nothing wrong how can you not love him ? Something has to be done about these baby killers, why not give them the same punishment ? Capiltal Punishment fixs the crime. Maybe in the after life they will be made to take care of the babies that they kill , that's a nice thought......
