LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A woman charged in a federal investigation of drug trafficking and corruption in eastern Arkansas was released from custody on Tuesday, but authorities said they expect more charges to be filed against her.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Joe Volpe released Catina Davis into her father's custody following a federal court in Little Rock. She must stay with her father in Lexa, Ark., on home detention.

Volpe also ordered Davis to stay away from the co-defendants in the case, including Demetrius Colbert, identified by prosecutors as a ringleader of the drug trafficking operation and the father of Davis' two children.

"The evidence that I've heard thus far is Mr. Colbert is a big-time drug dealer, and it would be very surprising to me that you didn't know that. ... At a minimum you're passively letting this go by and subjecting your small children to this," Volpe told Davis at the hearing.

Davis was charged with misprision after prosecutors say she knew about a felony and didn't tell authorities. A federal prosecutor and an FBI agent said at the hearing that they expected more charges against Davis, but did not elaborate on the charges would be.

Davis was among 70 people who were indicted last month as part of "Operation Delta Blues." The probe centered on Helena-West Helena, a Mississippi Delta town plagued by crime and corruption allegations. Five police officers accused of taking bribes were among those arrested.

The findings of Operation Delta Blues are outlined in seven federal indictments that describe Helena-West Helena as the center of a drug-trafficking operation that shipped cocaine, marijuana and crack to parts of at least three states.

An FBI agent testified that Davis and Colbert were inside a Marianna house they lived in when officers served a search warrant at the house. Special agent James Paul Woodie said that shots were fired from the house, injuring an officer who was hit in the leg. Woodie said the evidence didn't indicate that Davis fired the shot.

Woodie said officers found more than $423,000 in cash in the house.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Gordon told Volpe during the hearing that he considered Davis a flight risk because of the expected additional charges. Lawrence Davis, her father, said he would employ her at his construction business and would make sure she made it to all of her court appearances.

"She needs to be with her children," he told the judge.

This woman should have remained in jail. Her father may be employing her now to satisfy the court but I would be willing to bet my last dollar that she is on welfare in Phillips or Lee County regardless of how much money there was in the house. I am from Helena-West Helena (and so embarassed to admit it) and cannot understand why some of the ones arrested that day are out....who are these peoples attorneys???? One business that was shut down for the day because of illegal gambling is back open and the owner admits that the sawed off shot gun found at the "drug house" as well as other gaming machines was his. His own son testified that his dad was involved! Why isn't he in jail too??? This place is just crazy! There's still a LOT of corruption and hinky stuff going on here! Just sayin'!!!

I think all of the people that don't do drugs, make drugs or sell drugs including me should move away from Arkansas and let all of the drug makers drug users and drug dealers and that does include the crooked attorneys and judges have this poverty filled state.

This is another prime example of how Lady Justice works.Let a woman shop lift to feed her kids and they will be removed and she will be off to jail.

Let's see what we have here. Dope and kids in the same house. She will not get my vote in mother of the year. Let her go. She benefited from the sale of drugs whether or not she took active part or not. Evidence of that. She was living in the home with how much money. There are lot's of jobs in Arkansas that pay that good. YEA RIGHT. Lock her a-- up.

I had to read this twice to believe it, or not to believe. She's convicted of drug trafficking, corruption, lying and they release her, because her lawyer says she need to be with her children? But more charges are pending, and she will work at a construction site?, I smell BS brewing! And $423,000 in cash in the house, wow, convict everyone who was in the house, and do not release anyone based on children, she didn't care for them when she was out, what makes you think she'll care for them now. Makes you think about the rights and the court system.

Now this is what you call FISHING, and she will get released from these trumped up charges, that's why they are trying to charge her with additional charges. I hate to see all of their Good work in the war on drugs go down the drain because of bull like this.
