Yarnell's worker describes effect of losing job

One former worker at Yarnell's Premium Ice Cream says his experience working in the Searcy-based company's freezer hasn't prepared him for finding new employment.

SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — One former worker at Yarnell's Premium Ice Cream says his experience working in the Searcy-based company's freezer hasn't prepared him for finding new employment.

The Daily Citizen reports that 23-year-old former Yarnell's worker Shane Habisreitinger learned he'd lost his job after a series of phone calls early Thursday.

Habisreitinger has a wife and two young children to support. He says he applied to work as a jailer at the White County Sheriff's Department.

In the meantime, Habisreitinger says he's waiting for unemployment benefits to start.

Yarnell's announced Thursday it was closing its plant after it couldn't get bank financing to continue operation.
