ROGERS, Ark. (AP) — Police have arrested a church youth minister, alleging he engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

Rogers officers say 41-year-old Tyrone K. Atwater faces two charges of first-degree sexual assault. A police affidavit says the girl initially denied involvement, but that her mother found text messages on the girl's phone that told a different story.

Atwater was the youth minister at the Open Door Baptist Church. The affidavit said incidents occurred at his home, her home and during a church event. A telephone call left at the church was not immediately returned.

The Benton County Sheriff's Department said Thursday Atwater did not have a lawyer. He was being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.

Police investigated after receiving a tip through the State Police Crimes Against Children hot line.

Are you(the public)going to crucify the man before he has his day in court? What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? This man could be completely innocent. Whatever happens, his life and the lives of his children will be tainted forever. If guilty, he will hopefully get what he deserves, but what if he is innocent. Many lives have been destroyed by false allegations. I don't know any of the people involved. My heart goes out to his wife and children.

What really bothers me about this is if he is found guilty he will most likely serve less time than most of those in our prison system who are there for non-violent cannabis (marijuana) possession.

I hope he gets 4 years. Just like the female teacher in Ohio that had sex with most of the football team.

Arkansas is abbreviated properly in the article above. Some are thinking strictly 2-letter postal code abbreviations here.

affidavit said incidents occurred at his home, her home and during a church event. He is a pervert, but, it sounds like she may be a sex addict too.

Rickey, so since the AP stylebook guideline does it, that makes it correct? OH SORRY MY BAD. Just can't fix stupid can you. Back to the original story. If minister is found guilty he will get justice in jail and in hell.

Oops, Tyrone put his trust in a 15yr old and didn't think she would say nothing. And then txt her, apparently, mr Tyrone thought more with his boy than with his perverted mind...put this slug in jail and let his soul rot..
