MAUMELLE, AR- Three weeks after a woman stole a purse and went on a shopping spree with stolen credit cards, Maumelle Police say they have identified a suspect, but are not releasing her name at this time.

It happened in broad daylight, when police say a woman broke into a parked truck at Elite Fitness and stole a purse with several credit cards and 40 bucks.

"Within two hours that suspect went to Dillard's on McCain and bought gift cards as well as 3 pairs of blue jeans," says Lt. Dustin Ivey, Maumelle Police Department. "Then she Went to Little Rock, to a Walmart and a Walgreens and purchased gift cards there at both of those places as well as gift cards."

The woman spent about $2,000 in two hours. Police say if identification was checked at the register, she wouldn't have made off with stolen purchases.

So FOX 16 went back to the same Walmart and Walgreens in Little Rock, the woman used the stolen credit cards at. One of our reporters used a co-worker's credit card that clearly displayed a different name from theirs. The clerks never checked identification.

"We encourage stores to check ID when debit cards or credit cards or checks are being used, just to protect themselves as well as people in the community."
