The culinary institute will name its restaurant/dining area the "Sysco Le Culinaire."
"Sysco has been a longtime supporter of Pulaski Technical College because we can see the direct impact it makes on the lives of students," said Harry Cotros, president of Sysco Arkansas. "The students at the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute are the future of our state's culinary and hospitality industry, and we are proud that our business can play a part in their success."
Cotros made the announcement at the start of Sysco's quarterly sales meeting on Friday. More than 100 sales personnel from across the state were gathered at PTC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute for a day of food-focused workshops.
Sysco has an active partnership with PTC's culinary institute. In addition to supporting the college's annual Diamond Chef Arkansas culinary competition, Sysco hosts tours of its facilities for culinary students. In the future, Sysco's food experts will periodically serve as guest lecturers for students in the Product Identification course, and Sysco and Pulaski Tech will partner on a food show.
The company has given more than $144,000 to the college in the past five years, said Ganelle Holman, executive director of the Pulaski Technical College Foundation.
"This kind of partnership not only gives the Culinary Institute financial freedom, it also allows our students the chance to build relationships with vendors and future business partners," Holman said. "We are incredibly grateful for Sysco's financial support of students at the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute."
