Update: Trial Date Set for Searcy Man Accused of Killing Conway Officer with Car

(Update, June 23):
CONWAY, AR - According to Faulkner County Prosecutor Cody Hiland, today in court Barry Strickland was found fit to stand trial.

His trial date is set for December 2nd, 4 day trial scheduled.

However, there is a change of venue that is still pending.

There is a motions hearing set for for August 12th where the change of venue will be heard.

CONWAY, AR -  The hearing for Barry Strickland in Faulkner County Circuit Court for today (June 2) was delayed until June 20. His mental evaluation is complete, but the report has not been reviewed.

CONWAY, AR - The man accused of striking and killing a Conway Police officer will return to court for a June hearing before receiving a trial date.

Barry Strickland, 31, of Searcy is charged with first degree battery and driving while intoxicated connected to the January 31st accident on Dave Ward Drive that killed Conway Police officer William McGary.

Strickland appeared for a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday before circuit judge Charles Ed Clawson.

Dawson set the next court hearing for June 5 at 9am where a trial date is expected to be announced.

LaTresha Woodruff with the Conway Police Department says the hearing Wednesday was attended by several officers in the courtroom.
