PINE BLUFF, AR -- Pine Bluff voters will not elect a new mayor until 2016.

That's the decision handed down by a judge.

Mayor Debe Hollingsworth filed a lawsuit against former mayor Carl Redus, the Jefferson County Election Commission, and the county clerk.

The commission ruled in favor of an election to be held this year and cited a state law concerning population decrease as the reason for an election.

But the judge ruled in favor of Hollingsworth who says the mayor should serve a four year term.

Hollingsworth calls this a win for the voters.

"When you've got someone that to me the agenda is not best for the city but what's best for that individual then yes, it's a distraction as to what city government is trying to do moving forward," Hollingsworth said

Redus unsuccessfully tried to stop the 2012 rac.e, using law that cities population drop and election cycles.
