Recap: Eastern Ill vs. SIU Edwardsville

Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Jeremy Granger led the way with 24 points as the Eastern Illinois Panthers defeated the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars 73-66 in an Ohio Valley Conference Clash at Lantz Arena.

For the Panthers (12-14, 5-9 OVC), L.C. Doss added 14 points, James Hollowell scored 12 points and Alfonzo McKinnie tallied in 10 points and nine rebounds.

Jerome Jones led the Cougars (7-16, 5-9) with 20 points while Mark Yelovich finished with 17 points and Kris Davis scored 11 points.

Both teams shot well to open the contest. SIUE hit on 50 percent from the field and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Eastern Illinois connected on 48.3 percent of its shots overall, including a similar 5-of-9 from three-point range, and were able to take a 38-32 lead into intermission.

In the second half, the Cougars continued to shoot well, making 46.7 percent of their field goals. While the Panthers weren't as good from the floor at 44 percent, they were able to hold on for their third straight victory.

The teams were even in rebounds, 32-32, and in points in the paint, 24-24. Eastern Illinois outscored SIUE from the free-throw line, 16-3.
