Recap: Eastern Mich vs. Northern Ill

Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - Tony Nixon scored 14 points as the Northern Illinois Huskies upset the Eastern Michigan Eagles 55-52 in a Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal at the EMU Convocation Center.

Aksel Bolin added 14 points for the 12th-seeded Huskies (5-25), who will face eighth-seeded Western Michigan Wednesday night in Cleveland in the second round. Nixon, Bolin, and Abdel Nader each collected five rebounds.

Jamell Harris and Darrell Lampley scored 13 points each for fifth-seed Eastern Michigan (14-18). Derek Thompson added 12 points and Harris provided eight rebounds.

Northern Illinois led 18-11 after a first half that saw the two teams shoot just 10-of-39 combined from the field. The Huskies led by as many as 10 in the first half.

Eastern Michigan led 31-29 with 11:39 left in the game, but the Huskies scored the next eight points and never trailed again. Harris had a chance to tie the game with a three-point try at the buzzer but missed.

Northern Illinois prevailed despite 16 turnovers.
