The Red Wolves began practice at 8:35 a.m. and started with individual drills before working on special teams. The first and second team offensive and defensive units squared off against each other in several periods before more work was done in special teams.
“We went in full pads for the first time, and we hit a little bit more than normal,” Anderson said. “We’re all, coaches and players, working hard on special teams and it matters to us. I thought we got in some good work on special teams today, and it was one of our better segments for the day.”
A-State practiced each day over the weekend, going in helmets and shorts Friday before working in helmets and shoulder pads Saturday and Sunday. The team continues to prepare for its season-opening contest against Montana State, slated for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Centennial Bank Stadium on Aug. 30.
“Every day we’ve been adding periods to build up our acclamation to working out in pads,” Anderson added. “We had some heavy legs today, but our veterans were helping guys push through it. Our guys are to the point where they know their assignments so we’ve started to add some new things. The foundation is there, but we’ve got to get better at our execution.”
