A-State's Lee Named to Lombardi Award Watch List

HOUSTON, TX (News release) – Arkansas State senior linebacker Qushaun Lee has been named to the 2014 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, comprised of 123 student-athletes from 76 different universities.

Former A-State offensive lineman Bryce Giddens, who had his career cut short by injuries as announced today, was also named to the watch list.

Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.

Lee earned First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors last season after collecting a career-high 134 tackles and six tackles for loss. The 134 tackles led the Sun Belt Conference and ranked 12th in the nation in 2013, while also marking the sixth-most in school history and most since the 1991 A-State season. After recording 100 tackles as a sophomore, Lee became the first Arkansas State player with back-to-back 100-plus tackle seasons since Les Echols in 2002 and 2003.

The Prattville, Ala., native enters the 2014 with 283 career tackles, which is only 114 shy of the SBC record, and was named the Sun Belt Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by Lindy’s and Sporting News. He is listed No. 2 on Lindy’s 2014 “Top-10 NFL Talent” in the Sun Belt and was named the SBC’s “Hardest Hitter” by Sporting News. This is the second watch list Lee has been named to after being put on the CFPA Linebacker Trophy Watch List.
