CONWAY, AR - The first signing class for new University of Central Arkansas head football coach Steve Campbell and his staff features a total of 26 student-athletes joining the Bears football program.
The wide-ranging class of Bears includes players from 10 states, including Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Missouri, Kansas, California, Florida and Tennessee.
The signees include six defensive backs, five offensive linemen, five defensive linemen, two wide receivers, two tight ends, and one quarterback, punter, long snapper, linebacker, running back and athlete.
The Bears, who are coming off a 7-5 season in 2013 that ended with consecutive victories, added four mid-year transfers _ including two defensive backs, a tight end and a long snapper _ and 22 first-year players to the squad.
The Bears will open the 2014 season on Aug. 30 against FBS opponent Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. UCA’s first home game under the new coaching staff will be Aug. 6 against Tennessee-Martin on “The Stripes” at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.
