Pulaski Academy Beats McClellan 37-36 to Win 5A Championship

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- McClellan's Cinderella season came to a heartbreaking end Saturday night at War Memorial Stadium when they were defeated 37-36 by powerhouse Pulaski Academy.

Little Rock McClellan held the lead for most of the 5A state championship game after jumping out to a surprising 14-0 lead.  PA would eventually answer and the teams would trade touchdowns for the next three quarters.

With the game at 36-30 in the 4th quarter, McClellan had a chance to build on its lead but tossed an interception in the endzone.  Facing a 4th and 8, PA converted on a huge pass play to eventually set up a touchdown run from quarterback Layne Hatcher.  The score gave PA its first lead of the game.

McClellan had the opportunity to march down the field and win the game with less than a minute on the clock.  However, a McClellan fumble gave the ball back to PA ending the Lions' championship chances.

This marked Pulaski Academy's 4th-straight state championship.
