UALR (11-13, 1-8 SBC) suffered the sweep at the hands of ULM (11-17, 4-5 SBC), it was the first series sweep for the Warhawks over the Trojans since 2007.
UALR fell behind early allowing two runs in the first inning on a walk and three singles against Allen.
The Warhawks went right back to work in the second inning adding three runs to their lead on two hits, including a double by Keelin Rasch.
The deficit got worse for UALR as ULM was able to tack on seven more runs in the third on four hits—starting with back-to-back home runs—to take a 12-0 lead.
UALR showed life in the top of the seventh with three straight hits from Sam Vogel, Joseph Paulino and an RBI single by Drew McCurry to make it 12-1. Petr Sila added an infield single to bring Paulino in to score. Kilgore Gailmard came to the plate with the bases loaded and cleared them with a double to right center to make it a 12-5 game with one out in the inning.
The rally avoided the getaway mercy rule for the time being, but a 4-run bottom of the seventh ended the game. The inning featured two home runs for ULM including a game-ending three run home run by Justin Stawychny, his second of the game. Stephen Chandler worked the seventh inning getting two outs and allowing four runs, only one earned on two hits.
Cameron Allen took the loss for UALR and pitched 1.2 innings allowing five runs on five hits with a walk.Jake Busiek allowed three runs on two hits and walked one in his inning of work. Josh Merrill pitched 0.1 innings allowing four unearned runs and two hits while walking two. Dyllon Brownmiller worked 2.0 innings giving ULM just one hit while striking out three.
Bryson Thionnet led the Trojans going 2-for-4 with a double. Gailmard had a two-RBI double, his first hit and RBI’s of his UALR career. McCurry and Sila each had their first RBI and hits as a Trojans in the seventh as well. Paulino and Vogel each had singles, Paulino also had an RBI.
UALR will be back home on Tuesday against Stephen F. Austin at 6:00 p.m. before a trip to Central Arkansas on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Over the weekend the Trojans will play host to new Sun Belt opponent Georgia State starting Friday at 6:00 p.m.
