Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians have signed pitcher Fernando Nieve to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training and also inked pitcher Blake Wood to a one-year deal.

Nieve hasn't pitched in the majors since 2010 with the New York Mets and spent last season with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque, pitching to a 5.96 earned run average with a record of 7-9 in 25 games -- all but one as a starter.

The 30-year-old right-hander has a big league record of 8-11 with a 4.61 ERA in 99 games, including 19 starts, with the Mets and Astros.

Wood, claimed off waivers from Kansas City earlier this month, avoided salary arbitration. He missed the entire 2012 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May.

The 27-year-old right-hander appeared in 106 games out of the Kansas City bullpen in 2010 and 2011. He has a mark of 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA.
