Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers placed reliever Darin Downs on the 15-day disabled list prior to Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians.
Downs, who gave up a two-run homer to Ryan Raburn in the ninth inning of Saturday's 9-4 win over the Indians, was diagnosed with tendinitis in his left rotator cuff.
The 28-year-old southpaw has permitted 11 earned runs in 10 innings over his last eight appearances. For the season, Downs owns an 0-2 record with a 5.18 ERA in 26 games pitched.
To fill the roster spot, the Tigers recalled right-hander Evan Reed from Triple-A Toledo.
Reed posted a 2.61 ERA in six appearances out of the bullpen for Detroit earlier in the season, and had a 2.23 ERA along with a 1-1 record over 23 games with the Mud Hens at the time of his recall.
