Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics made a trade with the Washington Nationals on Friday to bring their former catcher, Kurt Suzuki, back to the team.

The A's also got cash considerations from the Nationals in exchange for minor league pitcher Dakota Bacus.

Suzuki was batting .222 with three home runs and 25 RBI in 79 games with Washington this season.

The 29-year-old Suzuki had a .254 batting average with 57 home runs and 302 RBI in 703 games over six seasons with the Athletics before he was traded to the Nationals on Aug. 3, 2012.

Originally selected by the A's in the second round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, Suzuki reached double figures in home runs in three consecutive seasons from 2009-11 and led Oakland in RBI in 2009 (88) and 2010 (71). His 669 games caught are second most in Oakland history to Terry Steinbach (1,050).

Bacus was 9-5 with a 3.56 ERA in 26 games (16 starts) with Single-A Beloit this year.
