(Sports Network) - Seven-time All-Star Tracy McGrady announced his retirement from the NBA on Monday.

McGrady, who won two scoring titles, broke the news to ESPN.

"It's been 16 years playing the game I love. I've had a great run, but it's time for it to come to an end," McGrady said on ESPN's "First Take."

McGrady played in China last season before signing with the San Antonio Spurs in April. He appeared in six playoff games for a team that made a run to the NBA Finals.

The 34-year-old McGrady was the ninth overall pick in the 1997 draft out of high school. He was named the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2001.

McGrady averaged 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 938 career games (703 starts) with Toronto, Orlando, Houston, New York, Detroit, Atlanta and San Antonio.
