Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - The Arizona Cardinals signed kicker Dan Carpenter to a one-year contract Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Carpenter had been released by the Miami Dolphins on August 14 after a five- year tenure with the team. He converted 22-of-27 field goal attempts and made all 26 extra point tries last season, while producing 30 touchbacks among 65 kickoffs.

The 27-year-old has converted 81.9 percent of his field goals and all but one of his 155 extra-point attempts over his five-year career. However, he lost out to rookie Caleb Sturgis in a battle for the Dolphins' kicking job during camp.

Carpenter will be battling veteran Jay Feely for the team's spot on the roster. The 37-year-old Feely, who missed a pair of field goal attempts in the first two preseason games, is set to make $1.5 million this season.

This isn't the first time these two kickers will be vying for a roster spot. The Dolphins signed Carpenter as an undrafted rookie in 2008, and he beat out Feely for the starting job.

In addition, the Cardinals released wide receivers Robert Gill and Robby Toma.
