Allen Park, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Lions released running back Jahvid Best on Wednesday.

Best was the 30th overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Lions. He rushed for 555 yards on 171 attempts in 16 games (nine starts) during his rookie campaign.

The 24-year-old started the first six games of the 2011 season, running for 390 yards on 84 carries but didn't see the field from there on out, suffering from concussion problems.

Best was placed on the physically unable to perform list in August of 2012 and missed the duration of the 2012 season.

"I want to thank the Detroit Lions organization for drafting me and giving me an opportunity to fulfill my dream and play in the National Football League," Best said. "My time as a member of the Lions was a very special time in my life. My teammates, the members of the organization, the Lions fans and the people of Detroit will hold a special place in my heart. I'll always be a Lion."

In his two seasons with Detroit, Best totaled 945 rushing yards on 255 carries and six touchdowns, as well as 85 receptions for 774 yards and three touchdowns.
