Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Frank Selke, Jr., son of legendary Montreal Canadiens general manager Frank Selke, has passed away.

The team said the younger Selke died on Monday at the age of 83.

Selke was employed in various roles at the Montreal Forum before he was named vice president of marketing and promotions for the venerable venue, which the Habs called home until March of 1996.

He was later named the first team president for the expansion Oakland Seals, who gained admission to the NHL in 1967, and the following year took on the role of GM. Selke stayed with the club until 1971, when it was then known as the California Golden Seals.

The elder Selke guided the Canadiens from 1946-64, during which the franchise won six of its NHL-record 24 Stanley Cups.
