Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed forward Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve after being diagnosed with a concussion over the weekend.

Malkin was hurt during Friday's game against Florida after his head slammed into the boards during the third period of Pittsburgh's 3-1 win.

Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said after Sunday's game against Tampa Bay that Malkin suffered some short-term memory loss after the incident, but has had "no other symptoms."

Malkin was rushing toward the net when he was taken out by Florida defenseman Erik Gudbranson on a clean hit. As the Penguins star slid backward, the back of his head slammed into the boards. He remained on the ice for a time before skating off under his own power.

In 18 games this season, last year's Hart Trophy winner has four goals and 17 assists.
