Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - The Columbus Blue Jackets signed goaltender Curtis McElhinney to a one-year contract on Friday.

McElhinney, who turned 30 on Thursday, spent the 2012-13 season with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League. He went 29-6-3 with a 2.29 GAA to go along with nine shutouts in 49 games.

In 69 career NHL games with the Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators, McElhinney has compiled a 19-26-4 record with a 3.09 GAA to go along with two shutouts.

"Curtis is a solid pro who was one of the best goaltenders in the American Hockey League this past season," Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. "He is a veteran goaltender with NHL experience and we believe he's earned the opportunity to be a part of our team in 2013-14."

Columbus originally acquired McElhinney's rights from Phoenix along with two draft picks in exchange for forward Antoine Vermette on Feb. 22, 2012. He then signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blue Jackets in July.

Also on Friday, the Blue Jackets signed defenseman Ilari Melart to a one-year, entry-level contract. He spent the past several years playing professionally in Europe.
