Little Rock, Arkansas -
LITTLE ROCK, AR (News release) - National football powerhouse, Little Rock Central High, will face off with James Madison High School in the 2014 MJ Kelly Gridiron Classic Battle of Traditions on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. Central boasts two National Championships, 32 State Championships and is ranked 12th in the nation for most wins by a high school football team.
The showcase scheduled for the game will feature two high school football programs with a history of rich traditions- Little Rock Central High School and James Madison High School. This year's game will be held at Beverly D. Humphrey Tiger Stadium in Lancaster, Texas. Next year, Madison High will travel to Little Rock to face off with Central High at War Memorial Stadium.
"The Tigers are excited to be traveling to Dallas to play in the Gridiron Classic against a very good Madison football team," Central Coach Ellis Register said.
"We feel as though the opportunity to play against a historic high school like Central High will provide our students the exposure of playing against an out-of-state team," said Madison Coach Gates. "We welcome the challenge and look forward to introducing the good people of Little Rock to Texas High School Football."
Little Rock Central Alumni, Leotis Harris, Jr. and Christopher M. Dickerson, in conjunction with the Little Rock School District and All Pro Sports will host the event.
The weekend will be filled with activities; including an alumni softball game, picnic and meet-and-greet for alumni at Buttons Restaurant in Addison, Texas.
"It's great exposure for Central's football players and I am thrilled to be a catalyst in helping our students showcase their abilities outside of the state of Arkansas," said Leotis Harris.
General admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students.
