JONESBORO, AR – The College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) has announced its 2013 Special Teams Awards Watch List, and Arkansas State senior Brian Davis was among 32 FBS players named to the organization’s list for its national Placekicker Trophy.

The 2012 Lou Groza Award semifinalist earned second team All-Sun Belt Conference recognition last year as a junior, becoming the first player in A-State history to record over 100 points by kicking (104) in a season.  He booted 17 field goals to tie the third most ever by an ASU player, while also breaking the school record for extra points made (53).

A two-time Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week last season, Davis was named a Lou Groza Award Star of the Week and the CFPA’s National Placekicker of the Week after making 5-of-5 field goals and scoring 20 points in a victory over Louisiana-Lafayette.  His 20 points by kicking were the second most in school history and his five field goals made tied the second most.

Davis’ .809 field goal percentage (17-of-21) posted as a junior was tops in the league, and he ranked second in the conference in scoring by kick and third in field goals made.  He ranked tied for 36th in the nation in field goals made per game (1.36 pg) and tied for 52nd in scoring (8.0 ppg).

The Brentwood, Tenn., will enter his senior campaign ranked second in career field goals made (41) and points by kicking (237) and third in extra points made (113) at A-State.  He has enjoyed 11 career games, including five last season, with multiple field goals made.

All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration. More than 130 CFPA recipients have signed professional contracts, and twenty-one have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
