JONESBORO, Ark. (12/5/2011) — Following their performances in ASU’s 45-14 Sun Belt Conference victory Saturday over Troy, Arkansas State senior defensive back Darryl Feemster and junior defensive back Don Jones have earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors.

Feemster (Reno, Nev.) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Jones (Town Creek, Ala.) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season. Feemster was also named Honorable Mention National Defensive Back of the Week by College Football Performance Awards.

Feemster recorded nine tackles and three pass breakups, both career-highs, in the victory over the Trojans. He also added a 60-yard fumble return for a touchdown and posted his league-high fifth interception of the season. His fumble return, the third-longest in ASU history, swung the momentum in the Red Wolves’ favor early in the game and gave ASU a 10-0 lead. Feemster is now tied for 11th nationally in interceptions, and his nine tackles topped his previous high of five set earlier this season against Virginia Tech. He has posted 38 tackles, seven pass breakups and five interceptions on the season, all career-highs.

Jones returned a blocked punt during the second quarter of ASU’s victory over Troy, extending the Red Wolves’ lead to 17-0. It marked the second time this season that Jones returned a blocked punt for a score, also taking one into the end zone in the Red Wolves’ 24-19 victory at ULM Oct. 8. He earned SBC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his play against ULM as well. Against Troy, Jones also recorded a career-high 10 tackles and his first career interception.

Jones and Feemster helped the Red Wolves earn the outright Sun Belt Conference Championship with the victory over the Trojans and extend the nation’s second-longest winning streak to nine games. The Red Wolves completed the regular season at 10-2 overall with a perfect 8-0 mark in SBC action, and accepted an invitation to play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl Jan. 8 in Mobile, Ala. Arkansas State will face Northern Illinois in an 8:00 p.m. game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Tickets for the GoDaddy.com Bowl are priced at $45 and are available by clicking on the "Bowl Central" advertisement at the top of the ASU Athletics Web site, AStateRedWolves.com, or by calling the ASU Ticket Office at 870-972-2781 or 888-ASU-FANS.
