ASU's Davis Makes Lou Groza Watch List

Arkansas State football senior kicker Brian Davis (Brentwood, Tenn.) has been named one of 30 players to the 2013 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Watch List.
JONESBORO, AR – Arkansas State football senior kicker Brian Davis (Brentwood, Tenn.) has been named one of 30 players to the 2013 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Watch List, announced Wednesday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

While Davis was a semifinalist for last year’s Lou Groza Award, the 2012 second team All-Sun Belt Conference performer is making his first career appearance on the preseason watch list.  Davis joins former kicker Josh Arauco, a 2008 Lou Groza Award finalist, as the second A-State player to ever receive the preseason recognition.

Also one of 32 players tabbed to the 2013 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) national Placekicker Trophy Watch List, Davis became the first player in A-State history to record over 100 points by kicking (104) in a season last year as a junior.  He booted 17 field goals to tie the third most ever by an ASU player, while also breaking the school record for extra points made (53).

A two-time Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week last season, Davis was named a Lou Groza Award Star of the Week and the CFPA’s National Placekicker of the Week after making 5-of-5 field goals and scoring 20 points in a victory over Louisiana-Lafayette.  His 20 points by kicking were the second most in school history and his five field goals made tied the second most.

Davis’ .809 field goal percentage (17-of-21) posted as a junior was tops in the league, and he ranked second in the conference in scoring by kick and third in field goals made.  He ranked tied for 36th in the nation in field goals made per game (1.36 pg) and tied for 52nd in scoring (8.0 ppg).

Davis will enter his senior campaign ranked second in career field goals made (41) and points by kicking (237) and third in extra points made (113) at A-State.  He has enjoyed 11 career games, including five last season, with multiple field goals made.

Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on November 4. The awards’ top three finalists will be named Nov. 25, and the winner will be announced Dec. 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards show.
