FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Brandon Mitchell has made a successful transition from the football field to the basketball court.
Mitchell is the backup quarterback at Arkansas. He joined the basketball team following the football team's Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State on Jan. 6. It's the second time he has taken to the hard court at Arkansas, following a brief stint as a freshman two years ago.
The sophomore's basketball skills were on full display in a 76-65 win over South Carolina on Saturday. He finished with a career-high eight points while filling in for an injured Michael Sanchez and with Hunter Mickelson on the bench in foul trouble.
Mitchell is still taking part in offseason football workouts. The Razorbacks (17-8, 5-5 Southeastern Conference) play at Tennessee on Wednesday.
