JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Rain ended a potential ninth-inning rally by Arkansas State and the Red Wolves dropped their baseball season-opener 2-1 to Lamar.

ASU had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the ninth when play was stopped because of rain and the game was eventually called because of the wet field at the Lamar Classic in Beaumont, Texas.

Lamar scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings while ASU scored once in the eighth.

The Red Wolves' Brandon Farley took the loss while Lamar's Ben Coram picked up the victory.

Rain has also led to the postponement of Saturday's scheduled game between ASU and Stephen F. Austin in the tournament.
